Toyota is a much admired brand and has reputation for rock solid engine reliability, but now days it has taken a knock as their engines are facing problems and owners are frequently reporting them to their dealers. Usually people said that they own very sophisticated technology in their electric cars especially in the case of some Tesla models. If you are one of them then here is something to perk you up that Honda and Toyota both plan to launch hydrogen fuel cell vehicles and both Japanese automakers are ready to showcase their models at showrooms by 2015.

Honda is working on FCX Clarity and the tests are continuing since six years and now Honda has again restated their plan to launch the Clarity in 2015. Toyota is not far behind in the race of instigating fuel cell technology and at Detroit Motor Show, Toyota’s vice president for operations said that fuel cell technology is the future of automotive tech, and Toyota has been showing off different versions of the FCV Concept since Tokyo Motor Show and just like Honda, it has had plans to introduce fuel cell vehicles to market in 2015.
Both automakers expect to build 1000 units of fuel cell vehicles by 2015 in order to gradually ramp up the production process. This production process will be further increase to tens of thousands by 2020 but it will clearly depend on the hydrogen infrastructure development which is needed to refuel the vehicles
Pricing will be one of the major factors in the success of fuel cell vehicles and Toyota had said that their FCV concept would debut with a sticker price around $50,000. While on other hand, Honda has almost same price for its Clarity. We personally feel affection for the idea of fuel cell cars, but if grid powered vehicles lift-off first as they most likely will, the conversion to hydrogen could be a very tough sell.

In the study of Consumer Reports on used cars from 2004-2013, the Japanese automaker was able to capture 11 places on the list of brands and models and it is more than any other brand or car maker.

The study only recommend cars with electronic stability control. They compiled a list of 28 recommended vehicles, in which Honda/Acura had the second most point at six, and Ford, Hyundai and Subaru managed two each. The Detroit brands also managed to be on the list, but not in an optimistic way.
On the part of most worst and least reliable vehicles Consumer Reports there is a list of 22 vehicles. This list consists of not recommended car models on the base of reliability and bad reputation for more than one year. General Motors had the most number of models on the list at six, but Chrysler and Ford weren’t far either.
Toyota’s performance has been out-class for the last two years and it is holding the top seller position with more than 10 million units sold in just 2013 but this time we are considering only one model, Toyota Corolla. This model is leading the sales volume against any other model in the world for February 2014. Honda Civic was edged out by this compact car just at the start of the year in compact auto sales race and it is enjoying a far easier time since February by being best selling compact car with a total of 25,299 sales in a single month, even the Chevy Cruze upset the Civic last month by jumping from third to second position and they sold almost 21,836 units, where Honda has 21,575 sales of Civic.

Toyota has recalled almost one million of its own vehicles and some Lexus models in the latest recalls.
Toyota recently declared that it is recalling 700,000 units of Prius plus an additional 260,000 Tacoma, RAV4 and Lexus RX 350 vehicles in the US. The problem is with the vehicles” ECU engine management computers. There have been no reports of accidents or injuries, but Toyota is worried that under certain conditions the vehicle may lose power and stop. Toyota says that braking is not compromised if the condition does manifest itself.

The specific vehicles included in the loss of power recall are model year 2010 through 2014 Prius cars. In addition, some 2012 RAV 4s, Tacoma pickups from 2012 and 2013, and some Lexus RX 350s from 2012 and 2013 will also be recalled over a separate issue related to ABS and traction control. In those vehicles the anti-lock braking system’s software will be updated in the ECU. Toyota says that braking is not compromised if the condition does manifest itself. Toyota hinted that the update may not be available at dealerships yet.
