The face-lifted Toyota Verso-S has been unveiled and will go on sale this summer
Toyota Verso-S 2015
Toyota Verso-S has received a face-lift for its 2015 model, however it has received a BMW engine instead of a Toyota engine, a 1.6 Litre diesel engine is an exclusively turbocharged unit with four inline pots and is capable of generating 110 horsepower for new Verso-S. It is being replaced by the Toyota D-4D engine for the sake of better efficiency. Toyota’s 2.0 D-4D engines are very capable though, but Japanese automaker has made agreement with BMW to acquire some downsized and most efficient engines from them so, it is part of their agreement to install a BMW engine in the Verso-S models and they stated that the BMW engines are efficient, less pollutant, flexible and offers NVH Free performance from almost 20kg light weight body.
This 1.6 Litre turbocharged engine can develop a maximum power punch of 110bhp at 4000 rpm and a torque of 199 Lb-Ft from 1750 to 2250 rpm.
The all new Toyota Verso-S has a 6-speed manual transmission and the German diesel engine pushes the Verso-S on the road with great agility, from zero to 62 miles per hour in 12.7 seconds and keeps pushing till it reaches the top notch of 115 miles per hour.
The fuel economy of new German diesel engine is much better than the Japanese 2.0 Litre D-4D unit and it delivers 62.8 miles per gallon on a combined fuel consumption cycle. This new engine is greener too with 119g/km of CO2 emissions.
Toyota said that its engineers in Europe have made several changes to the suspension system to refine body control and comfort levels while riding the new Verso-S. Toyota Verso-S 2015 is unveiled with several advanced technologies such as advanced satnav system and beautiful interior; let’s see if Toyota can meet its sale targets with the new Verso-S in Europe.
Toyota has taken a knock from their engines, rock solid reliability is endangered
Toyota is a much admired brand and has reputation for rock solid engine reliability, but now days it has taken a knock as their engines are facing problems and owners are frequently reporting them to their dealers. Toyota VVT-i engine is a Hi-Tec unit and on the probability graph, it is leading the story from top while Lexus power plants are chasing it from second position.
Toyota Hi-Tec Engines
The 1.8 litre VVT-i engines found in the entire line-up of models can experience from severe aflame of engine oil to 50,000-60,000 miles, according to the major Toyota dealers. The dilemma was credited to the design of piston rings, but Toyota announced that the entire service history of such vehicles need to be checked which consumes a litre or above against every thousand miles. There are several models beginning with X-Reg models that have received partial replacement engines in last few months.
Partial means that the replaced engines were excluded from cylinder heads and engine ancillaries. But Toyota is bit sensitive on this issue and said that the claims were attended as per their customers. If you think, it is true and you own an Avensis, RAV4 or MR2 which has covered a reasonable mileage and you feel that it is drinking a lot from your engine oil then the company recommends you to get in touch with your dealership for a possible claim.
Toyota RAV4 Engines
This blame game is doesn’t end here as Toyota’s luxury brand Lexus also appears to be enduring these problems. Its 2.2 Litre diesel engine has reported problems in its cylinder heads and forced to remove and de-coked after every 20,000 miles. Toyota engine manufacturing facility and its engineers consider the problem as particular to driving conditions in the UK. They believe that weather conditions affect the fifth injector in the engine which is used to control emissions. However, Toyota is facing some trouble and only a fraction of its sales have declined problems but overall they are still leading the market with reliability and durability.
Japanese tycoon takes the initiative towards social responsibility and start hunt for ‘gods’
Toyota is undoubtedly one of the biggest giants in auto industry, utilising the human resource along with the modern hi-tech machines. It’s been decades since Toyota fully automated its production plants globally and robots were making cars bearing extremely reliable engines. Mitsuru Kawai is one of the most experienced person in Toyota as he has spent more than 50 years there, he recall his old memories as there was a time when manual skills were highly appreciated and ‘gods’ was the term used for the experienced masters as they could make any and everything.
The CEO of Toyota, Akio Toyoda is very determined to have ‘gods’ within his company once again and to do so, he has personally chosen Kawai to develop such programs which will teach workers metal-craft. It will include many a things such as forging crankshafts from scratch, to train their human assets; company has dedicated as much as 100 workstations formerly housing robots. Once the employees personally understand how to fabricate the components, they will have an understanding of how to make superior machines. In one of his statements, Kawai said: “To become the master of any machine, the most important thing is to have better knowledge and required skills to teach a machine.”
Robots working at Assembly lines
Unlike other companies where they only teach their employees to just feed the parts into the machine and if something goes down or went wrong, just call superior for help; Toyota’s Operations Management Consulting Division plays the game differently, here new managers are not given any kind of help rather they are given plenty of time to get the job done so they could learn on their own. Toyota is not stepping back from its mission of building more than ten million vehicles a year; instead they are endeavouring not to sacrifice the quality while making this tiresome effort.
“To become rock-solid, we need to get back to the basics” said Kawai.
Toyota is the No.1 automaker in the world and has travelled a long distance to promote the automation and setting up the pace in the manufacturing process and ability. It’s now returning to the roots of its origin: human masters that craft any insipid part to their motivation.
In one of Toyota’s oldest production facility, a portion is reserved to humans who took over from robots in shaping metal pieces into crankshafts. Mitsuru Kawai is a 50 years company old hand, tasked by President Akio Toyoda to encourage craftsmanship, says these individuals are a glance of both the upcoming and the earlier period of Toyota.
Robots working at Assembly lines
Mitsuru Kawai said; “We need to become more firm and get back to basics, to enhance our manual skills and further build up them, When I was a beginner, experienced masters used to be called gods, and they could make anything.” They were known as Kami-sama in Japanese and they could take the control again and reassert themselves as humans and are now taking work away from robots at all plants all across Japan in order to make an effort and build up new skills and in the progression also get better production and the entire car-building practice.
“Toyota views their individuals who work in a plant like this as craftsmen who require continuing to purify their art and skill level,” said Jeff Liker, and by the way he has written eight books on Toyota. “In about every company you would visit, the workers’ jobs are to give food to machines in the form of parts and call someone for help when it breaks down.” Toyoda aged 57 now and Toyota’s president has promised to return the company founded by his grandfather to excellence and efficiency, stumbling the growth mentality and freezing any new plant plan for three years.
The all new Toyota ME.WE concept car was challenging 75 ground-breaking designs from all over the world and from almost every field of life, but automobiles including VW XL-1, which was also a candidate for the design of the year award held at the London Museum. The decision was made on the bases of progressive technologies and design modernisation used in the models. In the case of ME.WE concept; judges are quite amazed at its atmosphere friendly technologies, there is another short-list car using the same technologies, the XL1 by Volkswagen.
The ME.WE concept is packed with innovative and revolutionary eco-friendly technologies and comes with fully changed and frivolous structure made of aluminium and electric drivetrain with a cane interior. It uses 100 per cent recyclable polystyrene to develop the doors and bonnet of the ME.WE concept, while bumpers and other small formations are made with comparable materials. This is a flexible vehicle as it can be used as Convertible, off-roader and as a small city car at the same time but it can be used as pick-up as well.
Several other contestants and participants at the show with Toyota ME.WE included electric bikes and public transport apps such as citymappers. There was a school from Nigeria also shortlisted for award, shocked? No you don’t need to be, because it is a floating school from Nigerian lagoon. This was the seventh Design of the Year award and its motive was to celebrate the stupendous design make-up on the globe. Several others like architectures, digital, fashion, furniture, graphic and product designs were also participating in the show however the auto makers were hot participants of the show but Toyota ME.WE was crowned as Design of the Year for 2014.
The Prius is the top selling Hybrid car in the world, and is the bestselling period in all over the world since 2014. It is the most efficient and greenest EV in Toyota’s line-up, being the first non-plug-in car sold in the auto markets to achieve a 50mpg collective fuel economy rating. The line-up will definitely comprise of plug-in and possibly other variants, and will be expected launch a new base respite design vernacular for Toyota’s ever-present hybrid line-up.
Toyota Prius 2014
The Prius will be use Toyota’s New Global Architecture (TNGA) for the first time and it is first ever brand also to use the TNGA, a modular platform that Toyota claims it a serious weight shredder technology for its new models. As well built and even best fuel economy is explanation number one that the Prius holds the first place in the market; expect Toyota to make wide-ranging use of frivolous resources to decrease mass.
Earlier this year, some updates were reported that Toyota has intended for the Prius, such as batteries with better energy storage, bringing in smaller but powerful electric motors, and stirring to a gas engine with optimized combustion and abridged chafing. Using these methods, Toyota anticipates increasing fuel economy by almost 8 per cent. They are also planning to replace larger battery packs with the smaller and more-energy-dense lithium-ion batteries to salt away the space. On other hand prices are one of the big concerns and to keep prices aggressive, suppose the Prius to hold on to nickel-metal-hydride batteries.
The fourth-gen Prius make its first appearance at the New York auto show in April and is likely to be open for sale by the end of the year. Prices will keep at present level, likely from $25k for standard version and $30k for well built version.
People often scoff at Toyota for making tiresome and uninteresting vehicles, but a recent consumer behaviour research by Consumer Reports suggests that in spite of whether people may say, but the Japanese auto maker has a number of best used cars on the market and people are still interested in buying used cars from Toyota. In the study of Consumer Reports on used cars from 2004-2013, the Japanese automaker was able to capture 11 places on the list of brands and models and it is more than any other brand or car maker.
This study was broken down in two parts for a better response, price was considered as major factor while the size of the purchased vehicle was another influencer in this buying behaviour study. On almost every price variation point, Toyota has at least one entry and in almost every segment from SUVs to SAVs and saloons to city cars.
The study only recommend cars with electronic stability control. They compiled a list of 28 recommended vehicles, in which Honda/Acura had the second most point at six, and Ford, Hyundai and Subaru managed two each. The Detroit brands also managed to be on the list, but not in an optimistic way.
On the part of most worst and least reliable vehicles Consumer Reports there is a list of 22 vehicles. This list consists of not recommended car models on the base of reliability and bad reputation for more than one year. General Motors had the most number of models on the list at six, but Chrysler and Ford weren’t far either.
Toyota’s performance has been out-class for the last two years and it is holding the top seller position with more than 10 million units sold in just 2013 but this time we are considering only one model, Toyota Corolla. This model is leading the sales volume against any other model in the world for February 2014. Honda Civic was edged out by this compact car just at the start of the year in compact auto sales race and it is enjoying a far easier time since February by being best selling compact car with a total of 25,299 sales in a single month, even the Chevy Cruze upset the Civic last month by jumping from third to second position and they sold almost 21,836 units, where Honda has 21,575 sales of Civic.

If you just check out the position of European auto makers on the selling graph then you will notice that the most influential Volkswagen Jetta is sitting at the seventh place VW has its sales volume of 11,908 units. Like Ford, Volkswagen is planning for massive updates in its top models. Mazda3 was exclusively unveiled last year with massive updates and people like the model but in the February, Mazda3 has disappointed its makers by making sales of just over seven thousand and the out-going Volkswagen Golf has only 1,649 units sold.
The new Toyota Aygo has arrived with convincing, fun, funky and appealing looks with a host of tempting options to customise the already alluring looks. The dramatic X-Theme going on at the front distinguishes it from the 108 and C1 and the gazebo-style profile, rear spoiler and window graphic that extends in to the rear light clusters make the Aygo look bigger and bolder than it is.
The interior quality isn’t as funky but it looks an alluring and well bolted together. The Aygo hasn’t increased in size but it has new instruments, wider armrests, bit more luggage space with a trapezoidal centre console. The Aygo also gets Toyota’s new x-touch multimedia system with a 7″ touchscreen controlling audio, phone, connectivity and trip info, with SatNav and Apps an option and a rear view camera as standard.
The only engine option will be the 1.0 lire 3-cylinder petrol with 68bhp and a choice of five-speed manual or Toyota’s x-shift automated manual and you’ll be able to have the Aygo as a tin top or with a folding canvas roof. The new Toyota Aygo will be far better than far better than an EV for going around round congested urban areas.
Toyota has recalled almost one million of its own vehicles and some Lexus models in the latest recalls.
Toyota recently declared that it is recalling 700,000 units of Prius plus an additional 260,000 Tacoma, RAV4 and Lexus RX 350 vehicles in the US. The problem is with the vehicles” ECU engine management computers. There have been no reports of accidents or injuries, but Toyota is worried that under certain conditions the vehicle may lose power and stop. Toyota says that braking is not compromised if the condition does manifest itself.
2014 Toyota RAV4
The specific vehicles included in the loss of power recall are model year 2010 through 2014 Prius cars. In addition, some 2012 RAV 4s, Tacoma pickups from 2012 and 2013, and some Lexus RX 350s from 2012 and 2013 will also be recalled over a separate issue related to ABS and traction control. In those vehicles the anti-lock braking system’s software will be updated in the ECU. Toyota says that braking is not compromised if the condition does manifest itself. Toyota hinted that the update may not be available at dealerships yet.
